Another brood of adorable muscovys ducklings wiped out in 2 days, is there anything I can do?
I live on a canal in south florida and its very upsetting to see numerous batches of baby ducklings completely wiped out in days. I used to think that raccoons and large birds were the main predators of the innocent ducklings, but after witnessing horrific underwater attacks this past weekend, im convinced its either snapping turtles or the large fish (bass, carp) in the canal. Is there anything I can to at least give these ducklings a chance? After watching 3 ducklings get sucked under the water, I was so furious that i was ready to run out to the canal and just start clubbing the fish in the water with a baseball bat. (obviously I didn’t do that). I found a pet store that’s sells duck and wild waterfowl food, so i always through some out when i see them. After that the mother carelessly swims right into the canal setting up the poor adorable ducklings to a watery grave. Any advice on this situation or of is it better to just sit back and let nature run its course?
Hi Ryan when I had the problem with the Ducks I called the City Dept. Of Permits and Ordinance they explain to me the circumstances under which he Ducks could be relocated and one of them was if they were in danger. Let them know what’s going on and that this is not the first time they might give you an idea.
