Fishing Tips For Crappie

fishing tips for crappie
Fishing questions?

i’ve been fishing for about a year now, but i have yet to catch a bass, so i wanna ask in a lake or a large pond, should i cast my lure to the middle of the lake or the shore? i used to cast my lure to thick water grass, but i lost many spinners so i decided to not do that anymore.

how does it feel when a bass strike the lure, is it really obvious? cuz all i catch are crappies and they dont really put up a fight, so i might have let go of some basses cuz i didn’t know they strike.

i know this depends on the weather, the fish and my skills, but what is the best kind of lure to catch bass in your opinion? i use worms, spinners, crankbaits and somtime spoons. its kinda discourage when i keep casting and try to crank my bait or slow down the worm and still nothing bait.

btw im from northeast ohio, if that help answer some of my questions.

any other tips are welcome, thanks!

I would suggest you do your casting near the shore. This is where the smaller fish are located, looking for food and bugs.

The following is a “tried and true” method I have used over the years.

You don’t need any fancy, expensive spinners, or lures to catch Bass. You only need a live fish to catch a live fish.

I learned this method many years ago from my brother; I have never been disappointed, except where perhaps there weren’t any Bass to catch.

First, take a very tiny hook with a piece of worm and attempt catching tiny (or baby) panfish or “Brim” to use for bait fish. The ideal size would be no bigger than the length of your thumb.

After catching a couple, hold them in a can or something with holes punched in it. You’ll likely use them later for bait fish.

Attach a good-sized hook through the body near the beginning of the tail fin. Then, put a couple of tears in the tail fin to prevent rapid swimming movement of the bait fish.

Attach a “split-shot” weight, perhaps one-half ounce, about 4 inches above the eye of the hook. Then, about 4 inches above the “split-shot” weight, add a bobber.

Gently place the bait fish alongside any reeds or other items under water.

This is where your patience begins. You will occasionally see the bobber bouncing in the water, caused by the bait fish trying to swim. Let the line run out and keep some slack in it.

When the bobber suddenly starts jerking and moving rapidly, you should then hold your fishing rod a little tighter; these sudden jerking movements made by the bait fish usually mean that a bigger fish is watching the distress of the bait fish and that the bait fish is trying to get away from the bigger fish.

When the bobber is jerked underwater suddenly and stays there, this means the big fish, usually a Bass, has now swallowed the bait fish. You don’t really need to “set” the hook, since it’s already in the stomach of the Bass.
